Comic book ban.pdf

Article from New York Times, discussing the opinions of public surrounding the topic of comic book bans.

The fame correlated with comic books was nothing compared to the fame that the trials surrounding the comics gathered. Many people in local communities had strong opinions on whether or not these comics were truly detrimental to the education and well-being of their children. With the number of challenges and trials the comic books had emmased in such a short time, they quickly became better known by the adults. After hearing the trials, the parents of teens went home to see what was really in these books. Many parents agreed that comics were best off the shelves.

This article covers the resistance to the censorhip movement from the ACLU (Amarican Civil Leberties Union). They brought up the point that what kids should be exposed to is very opinonated and while media can influence us, it doesnt influence us to a great extent. The censorship of comic books determined the rights of prodcers to be able to publish the media they wish to create. Ultimately they argued that the media kids should be exposed to is up to the parents rather than the law.
